Let's celebrate our Supermen together.

The dads in my life are both Supermen in my eyes. What makes them so? It's not the physical powers they yield but the powers of the soul that make them superhuman in my eyes. I grew up in the early '70s with my dad. He taught me so much about life, and I learned a lot of life lessons from him. Here are a few:

• You have a choice in how you turn out, despite your childhood.
• If your dad didn't like your boyfriend, he wasn't a good guy. Dads seem to have a way of knowing this.
• Every child needs a pet to grow up with. They teach you unconditional love
• The most precious thing a parent could give was their time and attention.
• Don't lend money to your kids; make them earn what they want because it means more and instills a sense of pride and accomplishment in them.
• When your 16-year-old girl calls you to tell you that her tire is flat, you tell her to change it herself. You empower your children when you allow them to figure things out on their own.
• My dad had motivational books on the coffee table and attended meetings and parenting classes. I learned that personal development is important. 
• The garage in our backyard was where my dad first started fixing Volkswagens, and you can still find my dad in his garage doing what he loves. I learned how to be an entrepreneur.
• I learned how to eat healthily and to share.
• I learned how to always say, I love you. 

My Darren. Superman wouldn't stand a chance lol…at least in my eyes. I became many things when I met Darren, but mostly, I became the luckiest woman in the world. Darren is the nicest man you could ever meet. He is kind and considerate, a wonderful husband and dad to our two adult children and rescue pets. I often say that I would never remarry if anything happened to him. I could never replace my Darren.

Talk about superpowers! I love you, Dad & Darren.
