I have spent years training my brain to see what is good and what I have control over. No matter what is happening in my life, even in my darkest days, I can dig for what is good. My theme this year is Well-BEING and one of the ways I stay “well” is making sure my brain is focused on the
positive. Which can be very difficult when life, and the world, throws 10%s at you.
I listen to hours of podcasts as I drive and cook in my sunny kitchen. I want to learn as much as I can about keeping our bodies, and our brains, healthy. I was listening to Mel Robbins podcast, and she asked brain expert Dr. Amen his secret for training the brain to be positive. I pulled the car over to make notes assuming this was going to be
some very long scientific answer. My pen was ready. Then Dr. Amen shared the two most profound things he does everyday to keep his mind positive.
- When he wakes up in the morning he lays in bed and says,
“Today is going to be a great day”.
- When he lays down at night, he closes his eyes, and he goes through his day in his mind. He reviews all of the good things that happened that day.
I put my pen down and thought, what? Those two simple things are what a
brain expert does to keep his mind positive? That is amazing.
What about you? When you wake up do you think, “Today is going to be a great day”? Or do you roll over and doom scroll and dread another day? When you lay in bed do you ruminate over all that didn’t go well or do you love yourself enough to give yourself the gift of going over what went great?
Try it.
Every day of this beautiful month of April. Wake up looking forward to the day and go to sleep focused on all of the 90%s that happened during the day.
Mindfully,
Darci
