Surround Yourself with Like-Minded Beings
I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot about being healthy. In addition to what we need to commit to, both mentally, physically, and spiritually, there is a social aspect that cannot be missed. There is more and more research about the importance of community, and I could not agree more.
As much as I love being alone, and it may seem easier, I need to balance that with spending time with great
people. Making friends can be hard. If you are new to a community, days can turn into weeks, and you do not have people around you. It is so important. I have moved to a new city twice in my life, and I did not have friends in either of those cities when I arrived. I had to build those friendships. I joined groups that shared my like-minded interests: business, church, and service groups. I met two incredible women the first month I moved here at a business trade show, who have been friends for
32 years. My best friend, Cari, and I met at a business association meeting twenty-three years ago. I met one of my besties in line at the movie theatre and the other one at Winners!
Attending activities and tournaments with our children and meeting the parents of our children’s friends are some of my greatest memories. Making friends can be even harder if you are not feeling well. I know it is work to put yourself out
there, but the longer you wait, the harder it is. You need friendship. You need to surround yourself with positive beings.
