As many of you know our son is challenged by a weather anxiety. He has fear around clouds and storms. His biggest fear in the morning getting ready for school is, "What if it storms and I have to go outside?" One of the many ways Cindy supports John is to let him stay in the school at recess and work on something else. This simple act of kindness has been so important in helping us get out the door.

 

She not only lets our boy stay in but will email us on a particularly stormy day to let us know how he is doing. As a teacher, she has many other students and other challenges throughout the day but does what she can to make John feel at ease.

 

I say in my book that teaching is the most important job in the world. I have spoken to thousands of teachers and I ask them to share with me the reason they chose teaching as a career. Most would say, "To make a difference in the lives of their students". Cindy made a huge difference to John.

 

John and I wanted to share with you the letter John wrote to Cindy to thank her for this year. I hope it is a reminder to all of us that we all have choice in who we serve for a living. If stay focused on the 90%s of why we wanted the job in the first place, we then make the difference we thought we would.
